COMMUNITIES in Matobo District have been applauded for their efforts in supporting Government initiatives and contributing towards the construction of clinics in different wards, a development expected to improve the provision of health care in communities.

Villagers from Wards Six, Nine, and 12 have been contributing $5 per homestead towards building of the clinics within their wards in a bid to minimise the distances they walk to access health services.

In an interview with Sunday News, Matobo District Administrator Mr Robert Mzezwa said: “I am so happy that the communities are trying to help in the construction of clinics.”

He said the gesture was good especially considering the fact that it had been part of council’s development plans to construct clinics.

Matobo Rural District Council chairman Councillor Henry Ncube said most of the people from the district have been travelling nearly 35km to visit clinics to seek medical attention. He said people from Sontala, Silozwi and Sigangatsha and three other villages found themselves in a catch-22 situation when it came to health matters.

He said, “It only takes positive minds to unite to transform a piece of forest land into a rural health facility structure and most villagers are in the forefront of clinic constructions.”

Clr Ncube said the construction programmes were motivated mostly by the solid support from Habakkuk Trust and locals based in the diaspora.
