A 39-year-old mechanic at a borehole drilling company has appeared in court for allegedly stealing $30 000 from his workplace.
Owen Nhare of Malindela suburb in Bulawayo allegedly stole an invoice book from Drill Deep Private Limited and collected debts from clients.

He is also being accused of stealing a drilling machine from the company, which he used to drill boreholes for clients and converted the money to his personal use.

Nhare appeared before Plumtree magistrate, Mr Gideon Ruvetsa facing theft charges.
Prosecuting, Mr Stanley Chinyanganya said Nhare is alleged to have committed the offence during the period extending from 15 July to 18 August.

“Nhare, who is employed as a mechanic at Drill Deep Private Limited, stole three invoices from the company and used them to collect money from clients. He went on to forge invoices and further continued to collect money from more clients,” said Mr Chinyanganya.

The court heard that Nhare took company machinery and used it to drill eight boreholes in several districts in Matabeleland South Province where his company had clients.

In the process he was overcharging clients and tricking them by misrepresenting the depth of the boreholes he was drilling.

Nhare pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded out of custody to 13 October for trial.
The company was being represented by Mr Israel Kembo who is the company’s director.
