MTHWAKAZI Republic Party activist Wisdom Terrence Mkhwananzi allegedly assaulted a motorist before using a knobkerrie to smash the windscreen and the side window of the man’s car.

As if that was not enough, Wisdom later damaged a police car. This was heard when Wisdom (32) appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Franklin Mkhwananzi last week facing two counts of malicious damage to property and one count of assault.

Mr Mkhwananzi remanded Wisdom in custody to 3 April for trial. Prosecuting, Mr Mclean Ndlovu told the court that on 2 March at about 2pm, Wisdom and some of members of the party were singing at the corner of Leopard Takawira Avenue and Herbert Chitepo Street in Bulawayo.

At the same time, a commuter omnibus driver stopped at the same spot to offload passengers. The driver asked Wisdom and his colleagues to move off to allow him to offload the passengers. An altercation ensued between the driver and the accused.

The court heard that Wisdom allegedly hit the driver on the face and he sustained a swollen lip as a result of the assault. The court also heard that Wisdom then used a knobkerrie to smash the commuter omnibus’ windscreen and side window.

The damaged property was worth $155. Mr Ndlovu told the court that on the same day, Wisdom approached a police car that was parked along 8th Avenue. He threw a stone and hit the rear view mirror and it got damaged. He was positively identified leading to his arrest. The damage was worth $177.
