Mutare Board and Paper Mills defend Ingwebu Tug-of-War title

MUTARE Board and Paper Mills successfully defended their Ingwebu Breweries Tug-of- War national title when they easily beat Hwange Colliery 2-0 in the final held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair main arena in Bulawayo yesterday.
The experienced team from Mutare had recorded a 2-0 triumph in the semi-finals over Glow Petroleum while Hwange also had easy passage to the final with a 2-0 victory over GMB Bindura.

Mutare won themselves $1 800, 10 T-shirts and two crates of Shake It beverage with Hwange pocketing $1 200, 10 T-shirts and one crate of Shake It. The losing semi-finalists were each rewarded with $700 each with the money accompanied by one create of Shake It for each team. For the quarter-finalists, the incentive was $500 which came with a crate of Shake It.

For the first time in the history of the competition, women competed for prizes with nine teams entering this year’s event. Mambo Stars from Gweru came from 1-0 down to defeat Delta Beverages 2-1 to claim the top honours in the women’s section which saw them take home $400 while Delta won $300. Glow Petroleum took third place which carried a cash prize of $200 while Zesa took fourth place which saw them get $100.

Ingwebu managing director Reginald Ndlovu and the company’s finance manager Johannes Gumbo presented the prizes to the teams.
