A MEMORIAL service in honour of the late National Hero Cde Naison Khutshwekhaya Ndlovu was held in Bulawayo yesterday where speakers shared fond memories of him.
The veteran nationalist died on 28 May 2017 and was buried at the National Heroes Acre.
Cde Ndlovu’s daughter, Dr Eva Agossou said his father was a unifier to the family.
“He brought everyone together, both family and in politics and today we decided to remember him for what he did for us all by having this memorial,” she said.
Dr Agossou said the memorial was not to mourn the late Cde NK as he was affectionately known but to celebrate a life well lived.
Dr Agossou said she was grateful for the support the family received last year after the death of their father.
She said despite Cde Ndlovu spending most of his time away from them during the liberation struggle, he made the most of the time he got to spend with family after independence.
Mr Edmore Ndlovu, a brother to Cde Ndlovu said the late national hero loved his country and would insist on attending national functions even when he was ill.
“Mama would have a hard time trying to convince him to stay home and recover but he insisted on attending both State and family functions. That is who he was, he wanted to be in the presence of people all the time,” he said.
He encouraged the nation to uphold his legacy of love, unity and peace.
Some speakers at the memorial said it would be a great honour if some streets in the country be named in honour of the veteran nationalist owing to the contributions he made in the country pre and post-independence era.
