WHEN 2016 football statistics get revisited in our end of reviews one family is set to dominate prominently with a hattrick of brotherly soccer champions setting a record for Zimbabwe football.

The Ngodzo brothers – Johannes, Zephaniah and Joel – will become the first ever family in post independent Zimbabwe to provide three brothers as soccer champions, though at different tiers, of the game in one calendar season.

While they might not be in same mould to the Ndlovu brothers who hold the record of being only three brothers to play on the same field at the same time for the national team, the Ngodzo family will surely enjoy the sunshine on the park.

Many might think the Ndlovu brothers might have achieved that feat in 1990, records will prove that Madinda was playing in Germany during that season leaving his two younger brothers Peter and the late Adam to be crowned champions.

This made them join the Chunga brothers Sunday and Moses, who achieved the record in the early 80s at Dynamos, as joint holders of the record two champion brothers in one calendar.

Caps United’s league championship triumph yesterday saw Joel Ngodzo join his siblings Johannes and Zephaniah in capping a fine soccer season for the family.

Johannes was in charge of the Zifa Southern Region first division champions Bantu Rovers, whose defence was marshalled by Zephaniah. For a family traced to Bulawayo’s home of football talent Mzilikazi, it would seem this season was theirs.
