Sometimes we all want to go back in time and think of things we could have done given the chance. Young people like me would love to see how things were back then and just experience that old way of doing things and living.

Norma Jeane’s Lakeview Resort is the place to go to near the stone monuments of the Great Zimbabwe. The resort overlooks the peaceful Lake Mutirikwi offering you a pleasant and friendly environments.

Formerly known as Inn on Great Zimbabwe, the resort is known for its beautiful gardens, home-style cooking, comfortable accommodation and friendly service. Norma Jeane’s Lakeview Resort is part of the history of the area, as it is built around the tin-roofed homestead of Murray MacDougal, the man responsible for the building of Lake Mutirikwi (previously known as the Kyle Dam). The perfect location of Norma Jeane’s Lakeview Resort shows that, apart from dam construction abilities, Mr MacDougal certainly had an eye for a great spot!

Norma Jeane’s Lakeview Resort provides a choice of accommodation near the Zimbabwe Ruins World Heritage Site — perfect as a first or last stop-over in Zimbabwe if you are travelling to or from South Africa. There are eight hotel rooms (with dining and lounge facilities), and four fully equipped self-catering (self contained) family lodges. Both hotel rooms and self-catering (self contained) chalets are en-suite, and all have private balconies with views across Lake Mutirikwi. The décor of the hotel rooms and self-catering accommodation is unassuming, yet stylish and all the rooms are spotless.

The restaurant serves delicious, home-style full breakfast and a la carte lunches. Dinnertime will remind you of the Sunday feasts of your childhood and is a set menu. Guests get to mix and mingle at residents lounge while they share their experiences and admire the nearby Great Zimbabwe monuments.

A number of guided tours to the Great Zimbabwe monument are offered, with expert guides explaining the origins and history and eventual decline of the city, the various trading routes as well as religious and social practices of the once thriving community in Zimbabwe.

Guests get to enjoy sundowners during a romantic sunset cruise on Lake Mutirikwi. With a little luck you can spot hippos and kudu as well as many species of birds. The sunset boat cruise specially appeals to bird lovers and wildlife enthusiasts as various bird species are found on the lake. A sunset cruise on Lake Mutirikwi is an unforgettable experience that you would want to capture pictures of the surroundings for later viewing and for memory’ sake.

You can also visit the nearby Lake Mutirikwi for a peaceful cruise or fishing, or go on a game drive in the Lake Mutirikwi Recreational Park. Guests can on these trips see some of the local wildlife including white rhinoceros, hippo, crocodile and various antelopes. For more info visit www.travelozimbabwe.com
