WESTERN Panthers maintained pole position when they thrashed bitter rivals Matabeleland Busters 27-14 in an action packed second round of the Zimbo Under-21 Cup at Hartsfields Rugby Ground yesterday.
In an earlier match Bulldogs beat Old Miltonians 49-7.
Matabeleland Rugby Football Board vice-chairman Sean Robinson was impressed with the performance of both sets of players saying that was testimony that Matabeleland rugby was growing in leaps and bounds and that there was talent galore.

“We are growing and it’s a good thing, witnessing such a tournament you can see that there is much talent in the Matabeleland rugby,” said Robinson.

Robinson was, however, quick to point out that the province was lagging behind compared to other provinces such as Harare due to lack of corporate support.

“One major difficulty we are facing is that of attracting sponsors, this is the reason why we are having two tournaments (Zimbo Under-20 and Under-21 Cup), so as to try and attract the corporate,” said Robinson.

The tourney continues next weekend with third placed Bulldogs battling it out against former champions Mat Busters, while Panthers will be up against Old Miltonians.
