THE officer commanding Bulawayo West District, Chief Superintendent Marshal Dube has warned the police and the public to desist from taking or offering brides to officers as this was a serious offence.

Chief Supt Dube was speaking in Lobengula during the re-launch of the Client Service Charter yesterday. The charter was re-launched under the theme: ZRP serving and safeguarding peace and security in grace, stability and nationhood.

“Clients have rights and it is their constitutional right to report if their rights are being infringed on. The client also has an obligation to give suggestions or comments with a view to improve police service delivery. At the same time, I warn the members of the public not to give police officers bribes. It is an offence to give a bribe to a police officer as it is also an offence to receive a bribe,” said Chief Supt Dube.

He said it was the vision of the police to ensure that they became a leading police service provider in the world by 2020.

He said the ZRP is committed to providing the most effective and efficient service to the public and it will do everything to fulfill the constitutional mandate.

“With the limited resources at our disposal, we shall keep on moving forward in fulfilling our constitutional mandate, and our values remain the same to the public, commitment, professionalism, accountability, transparency, and integrity,” he said.

Chief Supt Dube said the police will increase visibility both during the night and day to reduce crimes in the community. He added that the police will continue to thrive to ensure total safety on the roads and and work towards an accident free environment.

Chief Supt Dube said the public can play a leading role curbing crimes by promptly reporting criminal cases and make use of suggestion boxes which have been placed at most strategic places.
