THE story of unlimited internet access has been a common one in the internet service provision business.

However, of late the players have been creative around repackaging their services in light of growing competition. Powertel Communications Zimbabwe’s leading Internet Access Provider and Prepaid electricity aggregator has done it again, revolutionising and reigniting the unlimited data offering on the market by introducing a first — the $2 daily unlimited packages which will surely put a smile on many a Zimbabwean’s face in these cash-strapped times!

This time, the local Internet Access Provider and ICT giant — also a subsidiary of the Zesa Holdings Group — has gone all out to offer the lowest broadband tariffs in the market.

Powertel’s mobile broadband subscribers are certainly now enjoying the lowest data deals in town as the corporate unveiled a new cocktail of unlimited data packages structured from $2 for daily unlimited, $10 for weekly unlimited and $40 for the monthly unlimited.

This is a significant knockdown of $10 from the previous monthly unlimited package that was pegged at $50 for the whole month. The above cocktail of unlimited data packages has certainly accorded subscribers a whole lot of flexibility in choosing the data package that best suits their pocket at that moment in time — the biggest benefit being that one has the freedom to not only browse but download and stream without having to worry about running out of data.

Excitingly, if an individual subscribes to the daily unlimited package, the package expires the following day at midnight, which should be a bonus to any data hungry consumer who wants to save on the pocket.

Powertel Communications has made relentless efforts to reposition as the most affordable mobile broadband and voice services company in Zimbabwe.

The company has been rolling out their 08611 Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service with unbelievably low calling tariffs starting from five cents per minute on fixed and mobile. They recently introduced the fixed VoIP service — Powertel Enterprise Voice — that targets business consumers by availing various voice packages designed to suit every business need.

One of the exciting business packages is the Closed User Group (CUG) Facility for unlimited 08611 to 08611 voice calls priced at $9 per month!

Furthermore, in 2015 the corporate rolled out extensive Fibre to the Home Service through over the pylon fibre termed PowerConnect Home solutions in Braeside in Harare offering dedicated speeds and unlimited internet packages for home use starting from $35 per month. This similar service is also available at Moffat Heights in Harare.

The story of availing convenience and choice has been one of the biggest success stories by the Zesa Holdings technological wing — Powertel.

The company was appointed the aggregator for prepaid electricity as the technological wing of Zesa Holdings and it has done tremendously well in creating convenience around prepaid electricity in Zimbabwe. Prepaid electricity revenue distribution has now reached at least 95 percent, a result based achievement which Zimbabwe can celebrate.

Technology has become the catalyst for growth and enhancing productivity in the world. Powertel was the first company to invest into fibre technology, taking advantage of the existing Zesa heritage infrastructure. — Powertel
