THE election of the Premier Soccer League chairman was cancelled yesterday after an irregularity in the nomination of Caps United president, Farai Jere who had been the sole nominee for the post.

Jere was reportedly nominated by Zifa affiliate members who are not part of the PSL, contrary to the top flight league’s constitution.

In a statement, Zifa Electoral Committee chairman, Vusi Vuma said the irregularity rendered the nomination process null and void.

“The election of the chairperson of the Premier Soccer League has been cancelled due to an irregularity that rendered the nomination process null and void. The Electoral Committee has since decreed that the nomination process be re-opened on 16 July and close on 3 August with the election now scheduled to take place on 9 September,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, Barbara Chikosi is the new chairlady of the Zimbabwe Women Soccer League after garnering 11 votes to former chairlady, Rosemary Kanonge’s four.

Other members of the ZWSL who were confirmed following unopposed nomination are Brendah Gorejena, Panganai Mahachi, Beaullar Msarah and Tafadzwa Mujuru who come in as committee members while Wilbert Rambanepasi is the vice-chairperson.

“The duly elected Executive Committee Members of Futsal are Victor Muzadzi (Vice-Chairperson) and Givemore Chidhakwa (Chairperson).

“The elections for the Executive Committee Members of Beach Soccer have been postponed to a date to be advised because the Electoral Committee determined that there was no properly constituted Electoral College,” said Vuma in the statement.

Other outstanding elections for Zifa include provincial, regional and the executive committee.

Provincial nominations for men’s and women’s elections are set to open on 23 July and close on 6 August, with elections set for September 1, while regional nominations for men and women will open on 3 September and close on 17September, with the elections have tentatively set for 14 October.

Zifa executive committee nominations will open on 16 October and close on 30 October, while elections will be held on 1 December.
