UMZINGWANE Rural District Council has partnered villagers in Shale area to build a clinic which is set to provide health care to villagers who are walking long distances to access medical facilities.

Ward 16 Councillor Alice Ncube said villagers had been complaining that they were walking more than 20 kilometres to Sibomwu Clinic to seek medical attention.

Clr Ncube said the clinic was a community initiated project where villagers are providing labour while the council is providing building material. She said the main structure was now at roof level and staff houses at window level. The site of the project was identified in 2015 after villagers complained about their failure to access nearby health facilities at a policy dialogue, which was organised by Habakkuk Trust at Esigodini in 2015. The chief executive officer of Umzingwane Rural District Council, Mr Ndumiso Mpofu, on Friday said he could not comment as he was not in office.
