THREE hospitals in the Matabeleland region yesterday received more than 1 000 blankets that were donated by Big Time Strategic Group, a South African company owned by a Zimbabwean businessman, Mr Justice Maphosa.

Mpilo Central Hospital and United Bulawayo Hospitals in Bulawayo received 400 each while Gwanda Provincial Hospital in Gwanda got 200 blankets.

Speaking at the handover ceremony held at a local hotel yesterday, Mr Maphosa said people should not blame the tough challenges the country was facing and use that as an excuse not help those in needy.

“I am a very proud Zimbabwean because I am who I am today because I am from Zimbabwe. It is such a sad thing when we are being given things by people from Europe, it is nice when fellow Zimbabweans are giving other Zimbabweans, but the people who are supposed to be doing that are shying away. If you give, you create space for receiving, people should revive the spirit of giving,” he said.

Bulawayo Mayor Councillor Martin Moyo said the society was going to benefit from the donations. Gwanda Mayor Clr Knowledge Ndlovu said the blankets were coming at the right time when the winter season was approaching.

Also in attendance was Minister of State for Bulawayo Province Cde Nomthandazo Eunice Moyo and representatives from the three heath institutions.
