ACTING National Patriotic Front (NPF) leader Mrs Eunice Sandi-Moyo said she had to adjust her diet and eating habits after hitting hard times following her expulsion from Zanu-PF and Parliament.
Addressing a small crowd of supporters in Bulawayo yesterday, Mrs Sandi-Moyo (pictured) said during her time in Government, she could afford to eat different meals with her family.
Mrs Sandi-Moyo was the Minister of State Minister for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province under former President Robert Mugabe. She was also a Senator in Bulawayo.
“To this day I don’t know what I did wrong. When I was fired from Parliament I left peacefully and I don’t even care. My life has changed, while I was still in Parliament I had access to funds and could afford to eat different meals with my family. After I was fired I told my kids that they need to work and save on the little they get, as I was no longer in Parliament,” she said.
Mrs Sandi-Moyo added that NPF wanted to work with parties that were willing forge an alliance.
“We don’t want to be led by a party but want to work with other parties. All these parties that are in existence today are breakaways from alliances. We are saying we are not fighting, respect us and we will respect you,” she said.
Mrs Sandi-Moyo said she will not impose herself as president of the party but will only serve until a substantive president is appointed.
“I don’t want to be president, I am the national chairperson. I will, however, be the acting president until a substantive candidate is availed,” she said.
Meanwhile, NPF spokesman Mr Jealousy Mawarire has said ousted NPF leader Brigadier General (Retired) Ambrose Mutinhiri failed from the onset to be a leader hence his “re-assignment” from the position of party president to another position.
In an interview on the sidelines of an NPF rally at Mbizo 4 Shopping Centre in Kwekwe yesterday, Mr Mawarire blamed the media for rushing to report that Rtd Brig-Gen Mutinhiri had been fired yet he had been reassigned.
“I should make it clear to you that Mr Mutinhiri was never fired. He remains a member of the NPF party only on a different position. If one is reassigned, it’s different form being fired,” said Mr Mawarire.
He said the constitution in the party does not give anyone powers to fire anybody from the party.
“There is no one in the party who has powers to fire anybody from the party. He remains one of us and preaching the NPF gospel but in a different position,” he said.
Mr Mawarire said Rtd Brig-Gen Mutinhiri failed to be leader from the onset.
“He was never an able leader from the onset, but we gave him a long rope. That is why you see Eunice Sandi-Moyo was acting president even during Mutinhiri’s presence because we could see there were no results from the old man,” said Mr Mawarire.
He said there was no place for former First Lady Grace Mugabe in the party, contrary to media reports that Mrs Mugabe wanted to take over leadership of the party.
“Both Grace and former President Robert Mugabe have got nothing to do with the party. They are just national icons we respect just like Nelson Mandela was respected in South Africa even after his resignation,” claimed Mr Mawarire.
“When I visited the Mugabes we were together with Mr Mutinhiri and he can testify that no such thing as Grace taking over the leadership of the party was discussed,” he said.
