SHALOM Project and Wintron Financial Services have launched a farming project. The project aims at training and raising 1 000 goat farmers who will be equipped with the knowledge and skill to produce for the export market.

The training provided to the farmers is in two phases, with the first phase being goat farming skills development and the second phase being an agribusiness financial management course. After which the participants can draw up business proposals and submit to the organisers for assessment and funding. The concept is informed by the global demand for goat meat owing to the devastating effects of climate change and unrest in countries such as South Sudan that had been the traditional producers and suppliers of goats and goat meat to North Africa and the Middle East.

The project seeks to enhance the capacity of smallholder farmers to meet the quality and quantity of the product enabling them to compete for markets at international levels. Their training is on practical intensive goat farming methods and take special consideration on genetics, shelter, feed, security and animal health. — Shalom Project.
