LOCAL bodybuilder and fitness trainer, Simon Gama has been appointed coach for the power lifting Bulawayo Province team to compete in the National Youth Games.

This is the third time the fitness coach has been appointed to head the province.

Secretary for Administration in the Ministry of Sport and Culture for Ward 1 in Bulawayo Magura Charumbira said Gama’s experience makes him the natural choice for the position.

“Since he is the national coach for power lifting, we saw it fit to appoint him to lead the Bulawayo Province because he is a suitable candidate for the position,” he said.

Gama has already begun training athletes in preparation for the upcoming youth games.

“I already have 10 people who are training for power lifting for the National Youth Games,” said Gama, adding opportunities were still there for those interested in joining the team to try their luck.

The team is open to power lifters, both male and female, under the age of 23.

Gama also founded and runs the Body Works Academy, which is a fitness academy located at one of the top gyms in the city, Body Works, which is at Parkade Centre.

The academy has availed training facilities athletes will use prior to the competitions.

Gama boasts of producing heavy weights in the game of body building such as Paul Goredema, who won Mr Zim in 2016 in the same category, Shantel Greenland, who also holds the title Ms Zim 2016 and Selina Manaeal who clinched the title in under 23 Miss Zim 2017.

Lovemore Munyamana, who holds the title Mr Bulawayo, is also one of his products. — @j_Sihwa
