LOCAL entertainment promoters are reportedly clashing over shows which are scheduled to take place in Bulawayo this week.

Promoters of the Jah Prayzah and Winky D show are accusing some entertainment promoters (names supplied) of trying to sabotage their show by tearing off their posters and banners off trees and lamp posts.

One of the promoters of the Soja and Gaffa show, Byron Rice said some promoters were hell-bent on sabotaging their show, which they marketed months in advance. The Jah Prayzah and Winky D show is scheduled for Saturday night at Amphitheatre.

“It’s quite disturbing how some promoters are playing dirty tricks to try and promote their shows. We are not fighting with anyone but for some promoters to deliberately tear off our posters and even stick theirs on ours it is just plain sabotage.

“Stealing our banners, tearing posters and covering our posters with your other posters will not stop the message and will not stop people from choosing what they know is best. You must be reminded that there are so many ways of killing a cat,” said Rice.

He also alleged that the perpetrators had even gone to the extent of cutting a fence at some premises in the city centre in a bid to remove their posters.

“It’s really pathetic how some of our brothers even go to the extent of damaging property just to sabotage a rival.

Nonetheless the show is on and numbers will account for our efforts,” said Rice. He said they, however, did not report the matter to the police.

Perhaps this rivalry was begot by the fact that Bulawayo is a hard city to please in terms of entertainment.

The desperation by promoters to perhaps try and sabotage one another could likely be linked to that factor and that some of the shows fall on the same day and night.
