Local comedian and former Mr Bulawayo Oliver Keith, affectionately known as NaJesca recently showed his sensitive side when he made a donation towards UK-based Support Mpilo Project, an initiative dedicated to helping the maternity ward at the hospital.

Keith, who recently headlined a comedy show in Birmingham, UK auctioned a t-shirt for 300 pounds (equivalent to USD395) during the show and donated the money to Support Mpilo Project.

“My NaJesca t-shirt which I wore on stage was auctioned on the spot . . . finished off topless. Proceeds went to the Mpilo Hospital Initiative,” read Keith’s Facebook post.

Head of the project, Samukeliso Tennyson confirmed Keith’s donation.

“Oliver heard our call for donations while he was performing at a show. He was moved to donating the t-shirt that he was wearing and it was auctioned at a very good price,” Tennyson said.

Support Mpilo Project brings together volunteers from UK and Zimbabwe to work towards the improvement of Mpilo Hospital’s maternity ward. Thus far they have set up a special care baby unit, helped with renovations and offer free nursing services on holidays.
