STEWARD Bank are the winners of the inaugural John Landa Nkomo Memorial golf tournament staged at Harry Allen Golf Club in Bulawayo yesterday. Made up of Bishop Mhlanga who was the team captain, Mgcini Moyo, Richard Ndou and Maxwell Mpofu, the Steward Bank sponsored team finished on top with 121 points to beat the Astra Building Centre bankrolled team who finished second with 120 points while a team funded by Supreme Furnishers took third place with 118 points.

Brian Gondo was the top player among the four professionals who participated in the event while Rodney Sibanda was the best junior player among the 9-16 years category.
Senior Minister of State in the President’s Office Simon Khaya Moyo, the patron of the recently launched John Landa Nkomo Memorial Trust officiated at the awards ceremony held last night where all the winners walked away with an assortment of prizes.

Khaya Moyo said the tournament was in line with the character and spirit of the late Vice-President who stood for peace and pledged to give all the support to the Trust. He also lauded the various sponsors of the golf tournament.

Chairman of the Memorial Trust which was launched last Friday in the city, Jabulani Nkomo, the son of the late Vice-President described the event as a huge success with plans to have it on an annual basis.

A field of 69 seniors, four of them being professionals took to the course yesterday while 12 juniors participated in their own parallel competition.
The John Landa Nkomo Memorial is meant fundraise for various projects initiated by the late Vice-President among them the John Landa High School in Tsholotsho.
