NYASHA Mutsetse ran himself and country to the final of the 800m at the ongoing 20th CAA African Senior Championships at Kings Park Athletics Stadium here today when coming out fourth in Heat 2 of the Men’s Senior 800m race here.

Mutsetse’s time of 1:49.69 was the fifth best time of the two heats that had a combined 14 athletes.
To add an icing to the cake, the women’s 4×1 relay team was given a bye to proceed to the finals, while they male counterparts finished third in their heat to also proceed to the finals.
However, it was a mixed bag in Day 2 of the biennial continental track and field showcase for Team Zimbabwe.
Nigel Tom who on Day One raised hopes for a finals berth in the 400m came unstuck when he failed to make headway when he came sixth in Heat One of the three semi-finals in a time of 47.93.
His compatriot Connias Mudzingwa ran a 47.82 in the third heat over the same distance coming out sixth to bow out.
The mood in the Zimbabwean camp was dampened when crestfallen decathlete Keegan Cooke failed to compete in the polevault event and was ruled out by the rules to further participation.
Cooke lost his polevault equipment among other sports equipment when his Toyota Prado was stolen in here on Wednesday.
The decathlon rules state that for one to make it, he should participate in all the 10 events that make the discipline.
He, however, took part in the discuss throws, 110m hurdles and javelin, but he could not take part in the 1500m run.

All the three finals will take place tomorrow.
