LOVE ’em or hate ’em, plastic bags are on trend at the moment. If you have been watching the latest catwalk shows, you will notice that raincoats or plastic materials in general, are becoming a big thing in fashion. Fashion stores overseas are stocked with these weird fashion pieces: transparent plastic skirts, rubber bag covers, vinyl tops. You can visit Annakki’s, Dolce & Gabbana’s Emporio Armani to be specific for those who are interested.

Clear Plastic Straight Leg Jeans, see-through skinnies that leave you completely exposed from the waist to the ankle are part of the list.

Many shoppers would be concerned about comfort, since nothing makes you sweat like wearing a plastic tarp. That’s why some exercise enthusiasts work out in trash bags. The brands recommend that these garments should be worn as a statement piece or for a costume party in the product description, rather than everyday wear. But then why would you invest in an outfit you will only wear once?

For those who will attempt this trend do:

Dare to bare

I wouldn’t advice the all-or-nothing approach but this is definitely one fashion trend that requires some guts. Transparency can absolutely be classy if done right, so whether your style leans towards pretty buttoned-up blouses with delicate see-through sleeves or sexy cocktail dresses with sheer panelling, don’t be afraid to show a little skin. That is after all, the point.

Stick to real life.

It may just be a strip of floor with chairs on either side, but a catwalk is a kind of fantasy world where anything can happen. Sometimes it looks like the real world, but sometimes it really doesn’t. The idea is inspiration, not imitation. We found that some trends only celebrities can get away with, and fashion people but the rest hardly do get it right. Even fashion people don’t attempt ALL trends. You just gotta know when to stop.

Layer up

The easiest way to pull off transparency without abandoning all modesty is to experiment with layers. Try pairing a sheer maxi skirt with a fitted mini underneath or wearing a pretty diaphanous (sheer, light fabric) blouse over a camisole, bandeau top or even belted over a dress. Keep the look modern by placing together for contrasting effect your sheer fabrics with weightier pieces like leather leggings, cotton tees and structured jackets.

Don’t forget to wear a bra

There was a time when we thought this one would be obvious to most, but apparently times have changed. So here it is on the record; bras are a good thing, especially when paired with sheer tops. So get to a lingerie shop and buy yourself a pretty new bra because the way this transparency trend is ramping up, you are going need it.

On the normal side of trends, one trend women cannot get enough of is the clear heel/Persplex trend! Ever fresh and unique and fun, this trend has been spotted time and time again on some of the hottest celebrities. Rihanna had twitter in frenzy a week ago when she posted a picture wearing the plastic shoe from Claire, Naomi Campbell wore the same shoe in white on the ramp.

Now, that summer is here, do yourself a favour and get a pair! The coolest thing about these heels is that you have a wide variety to select from. You can have clear heels, clear straps around the foot, or even just an altogether clear shoe (pump).

It would make sense that the more revealing the shoe, the more inclined you should be to have a cute pedicure. NONETHELESS, these cute little bits of fashion definitely elevate a style all one’s own, and might I say, look pretty dope. You can opt for a different shade if you want to be daring.
