HORSERACING faithfuls are in for a treat at Borrowdale race course on Sunday when the Mashonaland Turf Club host the Thoroughbred Breeders Association Listed race, the 3rd leg Juvenile Series which will be contested over 1 200m.

Accompanying the race will be two more main events of the day, The 1600m Breeders Fillies Mile race, and the Breeders Sprint, the 5th leg Sprinter series over 1 400m.

The unique racing day will bring down the curtain to the 2015-2016 horse racing season.

The racing industry will then retreat for a seasonal break for scarification beginning 1 August to 10 September.

The break will run for a total of six weeks according to the MTC racing programme made available early this year.

Action is set to return to the race course in September with the Air Force Of Zimbabwe Borrowdale Handicap, the 1st leg Sprinter series over 1 000m.

Between 25 September and 18 December, eight more race meetings which include the Springvale House Sable Flyers, 1 450m; the ZNA Charity Handicap, the 1st leg Open Series, 1 800m; the ZRP Fillies Charity Stakes over 1 800m; the Jacaranda Free Handicap, 1 200m; the Tote Free Handicap, 1 600m; and the big one the Zimbabwe Challenge race over 1 400m.

Thereafter the festive season break will take over but only for a while as action will return early January 2017.

Meanwhile, during the Republic Cup race held last Sunday Mathematician ridden by Morgan Nyamagwete was the first horse to cross the line in the process winning the competition ahead of Duffi’s Call, Eurakilon, Whiteline Fever, Rock The Country, Super Trouper, Windigo, Lava Flow, Lucky Sam, Madigan, Print The Pounds, Merhaba, Perfect Grace, Thriller In Manila, Flax, Fah Fee and Approval Rating.

For the effort Mathematician delivered a cool $30 000 to its stable while the next four runners Duffi’s Call, Eurakilon, Whiteline Fever and Rock The Country collected $10 000, $6 000, $3 000 and $1 000 respectively.

Mathematician arrived home in 114 seconds, two lengths ahead of Duffi’s Call on his way to lifting the floating trophy.
