THE quest for eternal youth has always been a “holy grail”, with some medical and beauty industries having propagated half-truths and half lies all in a bid to profit from the human beings’ desire to live and look younger. In recent years many private doctors, clinics and internet sites have set up shop, offering a vast range of anti-ageing remedies, from herbal extracts, vitamins, to pharmaceuticals such as anti-depressants.

If you have heard, read or watched documentaries or movies about the myths of Spain’s fountain of eternal youth or Asia’s elixir of life then you will definitely know what I am talking about.

Anyway, roughly a month ago, an interesting lady – Linda MacDonald Howes, who happens to be a beauty therapist and make-up artist, asked me to try out one of her latest products – Indian healing clay.

I’m sure most of you know what immediately came to mind, as I have a wild sense of humour and imagination. . . I imagined myself leading a life of the never ageing Spanish explorer-cum-guard, Ponce de Leon, who never once aged after drinking from the fountain of youth.

Anyway back to my article. . .As I mentioned before, I am not really one to try out facial products, as I am a bit on the conservative ledge, but anyway I thought to myself, since I have already succumbed to my girlfriend’s persuasion of using a certain product, which happened to clear my skin of blemishes and blackheads, (talk about practicing what you preach), I might as well give it a try.

I have seen products of this nature being advertised on TV and have heard of people traveling as far as Asia in a quest to find and purchase such anti-ageing products but never in my dreams did I imagine that such a product (Not an anti-ageing product but somehow one that slows down the process on the face) would end up in my hands.

I must mention that my first encounter with the healing clay wasn’t as pleasant as I hoped it would, I am sure that is the case with every other product but the results were remarkable.

After I applied the recommended amount on my face I quickly began feeling the clay work its “magic,” as I felt tingling and drying sensations on my face, as said in usage directions.

After using the product I could feel that some toxic stuff had been removed from my face and it somewhat felt smooth and rejuvenated.

The following day or was it the same day I used the clay I contacted Linda telling her of my experience, which she said was perfectly normal.

She explained to me how the clay worked and how to use it.

Now that we are in the midst of winter, it’s all the more reason to make sure we take extra care of our skin, by keeping it well moisturised.

Facials in winter are very important as our pores tend to clog up more than in the summer.

I recently learnt of Indian healing clay and its benefits and it is ideal for both winter and summer. Indian healing clay is from Death Valley in California, USA, where it is sun-dried for up to six months in temperatures that sometimes reach 134 degrees. It is rated among one of the world’s most powerful facial clays, which have been used for centuries to beautify and refresh when used as a facial mask.

Linda also mentioned that Germans and Romans have been using clay packs as treatment in the spas they built 4 000 years ago.

“Many of these spas still exist and use clay even today. The clay can absorb toxins, heavy metals and chemicals, while at the same time dispensing powerful minerals to heal the body.

“Nature’s Choice Indian Healing Clay Powder is made from aged volcanic ash and can be applied externally on the skin, as a healing poultice, sprinkled in the bath as a detoxifying soak or as a rejuvenating facial mask. It can also be a fantastic natural solution for food allergies, food poisoning, colitis, viral infections, and parasites,” she added.

She also highlighted to me that the clay was not recommended for everyday use as it could damage the skin like any other facial treatment product.

With my wild sense of imagination I am sure Linda will put many smiles on wrinkled, acned, pimpled and blemished faces in the city and perhaps the country with her product.

“Indian healing clay is known to be the most powerful facial in the world, as it puts the glow back into your skin. With this product you might as well say goodbye to blackheads, pimples, tired and sagging looking skin,” she said in her parting chat with me.

I guess we are soon to witness a scramble for the clay, especially among the ladies. . .
