THE Zanu-PF election campaign for the Tsholotsho North constituency seat has intensified, with the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs in Matabeleland North urging people to vote for development-orientated leaders.
Cde Cain Mathema was speaking during a rally in Tsholotsho’s Mpanedziba Ward 9 yesterday.
“This time around ensure that you cast your votes wisely and choose a leader that will bring development and not leaders that are not active,” he said.
The Zanu-PF candidate for Tsholotsho North is Professor Jonathan Moyo.
Cde Mathema told scores of people that had gathered at Mpanedziba Secondary School that they had to pick the winning team as all MDC formations were not worth their salt.
“MDC — whichever formation — is not a serious party. They are divided within themselves so they can never have the interests of the people at heart. Vote Zanu-PF, a party which is keen on developing this region,” he said.
Cde Mathema told villagers that President Mugabe had assured the district of food aid following poor harvests.
He said the Grain Marketing Board in Tsholotsho was stocking up maize which will be distributed when the need arises.
The Minister of State castigated non-governmental organisations for causing the dependency syndrome and encouraged people to work and create their own wealth.
He stressed the need to avoid people from the opposition who bring in nothing but sanctions to the country.
Meanwhile, Zanu-PF National Secretary Cde Simon Khaya Moyo has confirmed Cde Terence Mukupe as the party’s official candidate for Harare East constituency in by-elections set for 10 June .
Although The Chronicle broke the story yesterday, Ambassador Khaya Moyo had on Friday night stated that he would announce the official position of the party.
In keeping with his promise, Ambassador Khaya Moyo yesterday told journalists, soon after meeting Acting President Emmerson Mnangagwa at his Munhumutapa offices yesterday that the party had settled for Cde Mukupe as its bona fide candidate.
