How Mine…………………………………………….(0) 1

Tsholotsho…………………………………………… (1) 2

TSHOLOTSHO FC coach Lizwe Sweswe was a happy man yesterday as his side collected maximum points against How Mine in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Luveve Stadium.

Sweswe feels the win could see them turn around their floundering fortunes and see them amass more points to survive relegation. The Bulawayo side had gone for seven matches without a win, a situation that left them staring at relegation.

However, it was heartache for How Mine who last week fell to Highlanders 2-0 at Barbourfields.

Tsholotsho got their goals from Nixon Gama and Ocient Ncube on either side of the break while substitute Toto Banda got one for the gold diggers.

Gama opened the score sheet in the 27th minute after How Mine defender Victor Kamhuka inadvertently flicked the ball to the Tsholotsho striker, who was unmarked inside the penalty area and he blasted the ball past Munyaradzi Diya, in between the posts for How Mine.

Tsholotsho received a free kick in the 56th minute 22 yards outside How Mine’s goal line and Ncube stepped up to score the set piece, a rarity in Zimbabwean football where players struggle to score from such positions. The second goal spurred How Mine on as they sought to come back into the game and beautiful exchanges between Pasca Manhanga as well as Godfrey Nguwodzawo saw the former set up Banda inside the 74th minute to pull one back for the gold miners.

Tsholotsho managed to defend their lead despite efforts by Chikurupati to come back into the game, notching up three crucial points in their fight against relegation. Sweswe said his side always plays well but their Achilles heel was their failure to convert the chances they create.

“It is all about converting the chances we create and I think even today we could have won by a bigger margin had we been more accurate in front of goal. I think it’s high time we start picking up maximum points and it will be important for us to win the rest of the games we have to play in the league if were to improve our chances of avoiding the chop at the end of the season,” he said.

How Mine coach Kelvin Kaindu once again blamed his players’ attitude saying they only started playing well when they were down by two goals.

“What is disappointing is we started very well and commanded the match and we were punished from one mistake. The team started fighting when we were 2-0 down but it’s always difficult, you cannot play a team when you are trailing by that margin and it’s bad that we have dropped points at home,” he said.
