LOCAL private transport association Tshova Mubaiwa Transport Co-operative has announced a new directorship, following the death of Mr Samson Mabunda, one of the founding members of the organisation a fortnight ago.

The new executive was announced last week, during a stakeholders meeting at the Tshova Mubaiwa offices housed in Belmont.

Mr Atlas Mthayi takes over the reigns as a non-executive chairperson of the organisation and will be deputised by Mr Stonius Moyo. Heading the operations department will be Mr Reason Moyo, while Mr Rexford Mavolwane becomes the secretary. Mr Ndabazabo Mabunda comes in as managing and marketing director.

“We resolved to have a new executive following the death of our founding member. We will uphold his vision and ensure that his dreams materialise,” said Mr Mthayi.

Mr Mthayi said they would soon begin work on the proposed service station for Tshova Mubaiwa-registered vehicles.

“In the next weeks work on the proposed service station will begin. All the plans that we had will continue, as we want to uphold the late Mabunda’s legacy. His death doesn’t mean that the organisation has collapsed instead we want to take it to greater heights as he had envisioned,” said Mr Mthayi.

Tshova Mubaiwa was established in 1983 in Bulawayo and now seeks to penetrate the Sadc region.

Mr Mthayi added that the cooperative intend on turning the company’s image around soon.

“As part of our plans to turn the co-operative around, we exhibited for the first time at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), where we managed to get contacts from as far as Chinhoyi. We have also won a number of awards from residents’ associations and businesses for quality service.

“We also offer services to our dear customers where we offer free transport in cases of bereavement,” said Mr Mthayi.

The co-operative, once the plan is in motion will operate under the trade name Tshovita Transport and Tourism Company.

The co-operative was established against the backdrop of the poverty alleviation programme, a Government initiative that sought to alleviate poverty through self-empowerment of Zimbabwean citizens. -@peterkmatika
