THE rain affected the Logan Cup four-day cricket encounter between Matabeleland Tuskers and Mountaineers concluded in a draw with no winner at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo yesterday.Players from both sides would be left to rue their decision to strike, a move that resulted in the  first class contest, which was supposed to have run from Tuesday up to Friday, to only get underway on Wednesday and end yesterday. Rain had a big say on the last two days of the match, an indication that if the match had started on Tuesday, what could have been produced there could have been a winner.

When heavy rains which pounded the city yesterday brought an abrupt end to proceedings on the final day, Mountaineers, who posted a paltry 158 runs in their first innings, aided by 115 runs from Charles Kunje were on 348 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their second innings. That had put the visitors 155 runs ahead after the home team, with centuries from left handed batsmen Sean Williams (101) and Keith Dabengwa (102) had declared their first innings on 351 runs for nine wickets.

Former national team medium pace bowler Tawanda Mupariwa was outstanding for Tuskers with ball in hand, picking up six wickets in the match at the expense of 78 runs.

MidWest Rhinos top the Logan Cup with six points after they defeated Mashonaland Eagles by 17 runs at Old Hararians in the capital city.

Tuskers occupy second place with three points, defending champions Mountaineers find themselves in third place with two points while Eagles anchor the four-team log with just one point.

In the next round of Logan Cup matches which run from 24-27 November, Tuskers are away to Rhinos in Kwekwe while Mountaineers are at home in Mutare against Eagles.
