WHEN it comes to fashion a lot of men have caught on fast, their grooming is on point and most can co-ordinate an outfit.

This is a huge improvement on the men’s part. However, there are some ugly trends or style choices that need to be let go of as soon as possible.

Men love comfort, before how the clothes look comfort is the number one factor. In the name of comfort most settle for the weirdest and funniest outfits . . . which is not cool!

These are the styles that need to be thrown away:

Khaki cargo pants/shorts

These pants almost never look good on anyone. These pants have been around for ages now. If you are the ages of 16 and below you might get away with it but they are not flattering at all. I don’t know if it’s the colour that I don’t like or the many pockets on them. The only men who can get away with this look are those who work at safaris, hikers and geologists. Some will argue that they are comfortable, but so are sweat pants, denims and shorts.

Square toe shoes (4 corners)

So you have two pairs of Jordan, three pairs of all-stars, a pair of air max Nike AND yet for every interview you resuscitate that pair of square toe shoes you have had for years? This was a trend ages ago. Shoe trends are updated every season; there is a variety of formal shoes to choose from. If you go for an interview in a sleek slim suit and a nice tie then wear those four-corner shoe chances are no one will take you seriously. Do invest in a nice formal shoe, you don’t have to always resort to that shoe that you keep under the bed throughout the year. If you have Jordan sneaks then a formal shoe is necessary.

Oversized suits

Unless you want people to feel sorry for you or you are trying to look some typa’ way do not wear oversized suits. These days we have slim suits in almost every clothing store and in different colours, most will say they are so expensive; so have your suits tailored it is much cheaper. A suit is not supposed to be baggy or too tight but the right fit. Try to buy the right fit, try it on, and make sure it sits well on your body.

The buttons on the suit jacket

If the suit jacket has two buttons, button the top one and let the bottom one that way. The bottom one is for style, it’s not meant to be buttoned. This will save some from looking like they need some air having buttoned both buttons. If the suit jacket has 3 buttons, button just the middle one.

The right socks for the outfit

Socks may seem like an insignificant part in an outfit but they are not. If you are going for a sporty look then do wear your sports socks, the ones with the Puma, Adidas or Reebok label. However, these same socks will not be appropriate for a formal outfit. You may think people do not notice socks but we do. Of late bright coloured socks have been trending among the vintage style kind of people. Bright coloured socks are risky and only a few can pull them off. If you are to dress in formal do match your socks with the colour of your pants or shoes. Navy pants will go with navy socks, grey pants with grey socks, black shoes with black socks, brown shoes with any other colour socks which are not black.

We are not saying men are bad dressers or that all men dress this way but you may have a friend, an uncle or colleague who may need to see this article.
