A UNITED Kingdom-based pastor, Bishop Lynwal Alford Williams flew into the country recently to hold an all-night cleansing prayer for the City of Gweru in the wake of a series of deaths through suicide, murder and accidents that have been occurring in and around the Midlands capital.

The all-night cleansing prayer session dubbed Freedom Night was hosted by Grace Life Covenant Church founded by Major Pastor Mike. Pastor Mike said it was aimed at “freeing Gweru from the spirits that has been causing cold blood murders, suicides and accidents.”

Late last year, a 19-year-old man from Lundi low-density suburb in Gweru allegedly killed, raped and robbed his mother before going for a drinking spree with friends using her car during which he ran over and killed a pedestrian near Norton.

Barely a month later, a 14-year-old boy from Mkoba high density suburb allegedly killed a maid by hitting her repeatedly with a hoe on the head before shoving her fractured head into the toilet chamber and locked her inside the house for days.

In February this year, an MSU lecturer also from Lundi was allegedly brutally killed by her husband over infidelity after she allegedly bragged about her boyfriend at home and boasted about the illicit affair in an attempt to belittle her husband.

A day later her colleague from the same department and same neighbourhood committed suicide by drinking poison for unknown reasons that were alleged to be work related.

Early this month 30 people died in an accident Along Gweru-Kwekwe Road when a Mercedes Benz Sprinter collided head on with a Pfochez bus killing 28 people on the spot.

At the beginning of this month, an MSU worker committed suicide by hanging following a dispute with his wife after he deserted his family to go and cohabit with a student alleging that his wife was abusive.

And recently, 10 people died in an accident along Gweru-Bulawayo road when a Mitsubishi Colt collided head on with a Toyota Haice at the 303km peg killing eight people on the spot.

Bishop Williams attributed the deaths to evil spirits and said the city needed cleansing and deliverance from the dark spirits that were likely to cause more deaths.

“The city has been attacked by evil spirits that have caused a series of deaths through murder, suicide and accidents.

The church is praying to God to set the City of Gweru free from these spirits. This Freedom Night is dedicated to the deaths that have been happening in Gweru,” he said.
