THE University of Zimbabwe underlined their name as the kings of varsity rugby after beating Chinhoyi University of Technology 17-12 in an interesting Zimbabwe University Sports Association (Zusa) games final that had to be decided in extra time at Hartsfield Rugby Ground yesterday.

The game had ended 12-12 with Takunda Chigamba and Tawanda Kandawasvika scoring tries for UZ while CUT got their tries from Ryan Musomi and Tana Kaura. With the teams not separated in normal time, the contest had to be taken to sudden death where the first team to score was going to win.

Kandawasvika made sure UZ were the winners with a try, his second of the match to win it for his team.

Last year’s losing finalists Midlands State University had to settle for third place after beating Harare Institute of Technology 14-12 with Brandon Nyakura, Dylan Nhema and Craig Chikuni scoring the tries for MSU.

In the other Zusa games that were played yesterday, MSU claimed gold in golf in both male and female teams while swimming began yesterday, chess, pool, tennis and the semi-finals of cricket are set to be played today at the National University of Science and Technology.
