VICE-PRESIDENT Mphoko set the tone for the President’s birthday celebrations, honouring him when he called forward the children to sit on his lap, not minding how dirty some of them who had been playing all day were.
Vice President Mphoko invited hordes of children from Njube high-density suburb to sit with him on the high table while he addressed Zanu-PF supporters in the suburb’s Ward 12, at Njube Shopping Centre.
“You all know that today is the President’s birthday and that he (President Mugabe) is fond of children. To honour him on his day I’m going to call all the children here to come and sit with me in front. Please children come, come, come, don’t be shy,” he said while ushering the kids to the high table.
Before going into the main business of the meeting, Vice President Mphoko led the children in singing a birthday song for President Mugabe, and the gathering was not to be left out in marking the birthday of a revolutionary.
And when it came to the part where the children asked, “How old are you now?”, VP Mphoko replied, reminding the children that President Mugabe had turned 91 years, before leading the young ones into wild chants of “hip, hip, hooray”.
After the birthday special, VP Mphoko turned to the business of the day and invited party members to field their grievances as he took notes.
VP Mphoko responded to the grievances noting that, the solution to most of the problems bedevilling the Njube community lay in voting Zanu-PF councillors into office.
He added that Government was working flat out to come up with strategies for the revival of local industry and create jobs for the youths.
