AWARD winning style icon and model Welshman Sibanda is planning on dropping a tribal house track, as he seeks to try his luck in the music industry.

The track — Ngiyakukhumbula, could most likely become a local club anthem and if he manages to get it beyond borders it is likely to land him a recording deal. Welsh, an electrical artisan by profession said music was always in his blood from the time he was in primary school.

“I told my producer — Lance Hebron that I could sing, since music was my first love while I was in primary school, where I attended Senondo Primary School,” said Welsh.

The track features on Hebron’s album — 084 Streets, which identifies with Gwanda.

Welsh said in high school he was part of an accapella group, where they performed in Harare and even made it to the national championships, where they performed alongside Eric Moyo, Bob Nyabinde and Pozee.

“It’s evident that I am not new to the music industry . . . I was just trying to find myself. In 2001, while I was in high school I was also part of a church accapella group that qualified for the national competition held by PG Building Supplies in Harare,” he said.

Welsh said his producer, who happens to be from Gwanda composed the instrumental, which he then voiced.

“We worked on it for a month and we then put it together to come up with the song,” said Welsh.

He added that he would be working on more tracks with the hope of producing an album in the future.

Welsh, in 2015 won an award for the Best Dressed Male at the Zimbabwe Fashion Week (ZFW) held in Harare. He is presently the reigning Matabeleland Style Icon. Evidently his dress style, which identifies with him, always turns heads. He designs and dresses a number of popular individuals in Bulawayo.

Welshman sees himself as the growing stylist in the fashion industry and is happy to have been recognised through the award, as a partial fulfilment of his dream to become one of the best stylists in the country and even to be recognised beyond the Zimbabwean borders.

Welsh mentioned that he had intentions of opening a clothing label, an idea which is perhaps still in the pipeline.
