Well positioned mirrors can help you achieve an elegant and relaxed look. A mirror plays a huge role in home décor, it is not only useful for checking your appearance, but has other purposes such as capturing light and projecting it into those darker corners that you don’t like, creating textural and spatial illusions, and highlighting your favourite accessories and ornaments by reflecting them into your vision from different angles.
Here are some tips on how to enhance the look of your home using mirrors.
Mirrors can help in improving light. Place a mirror adjacent to a window to perfectly catch the angle of light from outside and bounce it through the window. By so doing you will be optimising natural light and creating a warm, serene atmosphere.
Mirrors can be used to create texture. Mounting a textured mirror frame which adds a three dimensional level to the wall can act as statement furnishings in any room.
Also to add texture in a room is to position the mirror so it reflects a textured object already in the room, be it a wooden coffee table, vase or faux fur throw.
Think about where you spend most of your time in that room and what angle you would like to see. For example if you like spending time in your living room, when sitting on the couch you might like to be able to see a vase or any or any other accessory which is positioned on the surface behind you. In that case, you can position the mirror opposite the vase and directly in your eye line.
Be unique and show off what you like, for example if you have a beautiful ornament that you put so much effort on, why not reflect and enjoy it from different angles?
Mirrors are not only designed for indoors, they work everywhere, including outdoors.
Garden mirrors can be placed in various places to create a powerful effect. For instance, against the edge of the garden among blooming flowers can create the idea of a secret gateway. Mirrored panels on the ground among borders can also make them appear fuller, deeper and more lavish.
The bigger the mirror, the more space it will appear to create. Think carefully about the angle of the room you want to reflect . . . placing a mirror opposite a window, for example, will bring both natural light and greenery into a smaller room. In a room where you are likely to have guests, a larger mirror can increase the atmosphere in the room by giving the illusion of more guests.
The entrance speaks volume about your home hence your first impression should count. Decorating your entrance by placing a statement mirror in the entrance way of a house gives the immediate feeling of uplifting light as soon as you enter.
