A 16-year-old marriage is facing collapse after a woman from Luveve suburb in Bulawayo allegedly eloped to a neighbour with her husband’s two children amid reports that she has started making demands for shares of the family house.

The woman, Nolen Dube (39) who was customarily married to Bekithemba Ngwenya (50) of 451 New Luveve left her matrimonial home to stay with her alleged boyfriend Sipho Khumalo (68) of 461 New Luveve and took their two children with her.

“My wife ran away on 5 June to stay with Sipho Khumalo,” said Ngwenya.

As if that was not enough, on 13 July the court gave Dube full custody of their two children, leading to her taking the children with her to Khumalo’s house who lives 10 houses from her former matrimonial home.

Ngwenya said that he first suspected his wife was having an affair last year after she allegedly suggested that they start using protection. He said early this year she would come home late at about 10pm claiming that she was at church which made him more suspicious.

On 5 June Ngwenya said he allegedly caught his wife with another man near Luveve Clinic leading to a misunderstanding. Later that night, following the misunderstanding Dube went out and efforts to locate her were fruitless. After two weeks, Dube is said to have returned to their matrimonial home to take their children and started making claims on their house which Ngwenya said was a family home.

“My parents left me this house, so Nolen cannot claim it,” he said.

A family friend who refused to be named said Dube was being influenced to claim the house by Khumalo.

“I have known Nolen for a long time and it is unlike her to act like this. I think she is under pressure from Khumalo,” she said.

Ngwenya said despite the complications his marriage was going through he still loved his wife and children.

“I still love my wife and want my family back. I want the society to know the kind of man Khumalo is,” said Ngwenya.

Khumalo and Dube who are now staying together as husband and wife declined to entertain questions from Sunday News.
