FOUR junior tennis players are attending a weeklong camp at the High Performance Centre in Pretoria, South Africa as they seek exposure to top training facilities.

Kudzaishe Chapepa, Kuzivaishe Chapepa, Shawn Mabhena and Zanenkosi Moyo left last Friday to for the session that ran from Sunday and culminated with their participation in the Gauteng North Tennis Tournament that kicked off on Friday and ends today.

The upcoming stars have been under the tutelage of South African-based coach, Prince Madema who has been taking them through advanced techniques at the esteemed facility.

Local coach, Thesly Mufunda who travelled with the youngsters said training at the renowned facility is not only likely to expose them to advanced techniques and tactics but also give them a winning mentality.

The University of Pretoria centre offers one of the best sports training facilities in the continent and covers a wide range of sporting disciplines.

“Exposure to top training facilities and advanced is meant to motivate them. There is a winning atmosphere at the centre hence they will be among likeminded people with championship mentality.

“Sometimes we do not raise our standards to the best of our ability not because we can’t but because we don’t know that our best is not the best. What we might be content with is not actually the ultimate but there would be more,” he said.

Coach, Shameon Mazvarira is also part of the entourage.

Mufunda said taking part in the Gauteng tourney will also give the players to face off against a different set of opponents and test their skills in a different environment.

The Chapepa sisters have been making steady inroads into the sport and have set themselves for greater heights hoping to emulate the exploits of top tennis siblings, Americans, the Williams siblings, Serena and Venus.

Their father, Frederick said they are intent on exposing the children to the best facilities at an early age as they hone their skills to achieve more in the sport.
