YOUTH Creative Ideas will on Sunday host the first of the quarterly Male Involvement Soccer Tournament at Esiporweni Soccer Ground in Entumbane this morning. The theme of the tournament is “Real men know their HIV status; achieve dreams get circumcised today.’’ Youth Creative Ideas is a youth-led organisation focusing on demand creation of sexual reproduction health services and product. The 6th edition of the tournament will start at 8am and ends at 5pm.

It will feature five teams from Bulawayo’s Prevention Soccer League (Emakhandeni District) and these include MaYellow FC, Matshobana FC, Bosso Chapter FC, Busy Bee FC, and Eleven stars FC. Mthokozisi Ndlovu, the director of the Youth Creative Ideas said the main reason for the tournament was to educate males, especially the youth about the deadly HIV virus and the Aids disease through sport.

“We are holding the tournament in order to educate the youth about HIV and Aids through soccer because we have realised that the youth have little or no knowledge when it comes to this killer disease,” said Ndlovu.

The competition is proudly supported by the Prevention Soccer League, Zimbabwe National Aids Council, Matabeleland Aids Council, National Family Planning Council and Population Services International, according to Ndlovu.

He said besides soccer there will be free HIV testing and male circumcision which will be open to everyone. “Free HIV testing and counselling will be offered, also available will be the Voluntary Medical Male circumcision for all those who want to be circumcised,” he said.

The winners of the tournament will walk away with $400 while the runners-up will receive $300. The third placed team will get $200, with the fourth getting $150, while the basement team will have $100 as a consolation.
