THE acting Sports and Recreation Commission director-general, Joseph Muchechetere, has declared Matabeleland North Province as technically ready to host the revised and rebranded Zimbabwe National Youth Games.

The Games roar into life across four geographical places in Matabeleland North as well as in Bulawayo tomorrow morning where all the participating provinces are expected to field strong teams.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of a final technical meeting at Thomas Coulter Primary School in Hwange yesterday, Muchechetere said all competition systems have been put in place, including setting up of conflict resolution chambers for each of the 22 sporting codes.

“We have put all the competition systems in place that is in terms of rules, regulations, the games’ manual and the technical guidelines, all those things are in place. The technical directors have established their disputes resolution systems and committees as well as the jury to make sure that all disputes are handled properly. So in terms of the technical preparedness of the National Sports Associations, it’s excellent,” said Muchechetere.

The acting director-general said once the teams have entered their teams by numbers, the competition directors should be in a position to know how many athletes are available and be in a position to come up with competition formats so that come tomorrow, the competitions start with what is called parade at each sporting venue.

Muchechetere also heaped praises on corporates that have assisted in making sure the games are a success, making particular reference to Hwange Colliery Company.

“We also want to thank the corporates here especially Hwange Colliery Company for coming on board and taking the lead in making sure we have prepared our facilities for hosting,” said Muchechetere.

Our news crew visited a number of sporting venues in Hwange and witnessed final touches being put in place in the facilities while the generality of the population in Hwange also said they were eager for the games to get underway.

Teams were expected to check in at their villages yesterday while some will troop in today.
