THE ruling Zanu-PF has resoundingly endorsed President Mugabe as the party’s sole candidate for the 2018 Presidential elections, with further calls to declare him Life President.

This came out yesterday as the party’s 16th Annual National People’s Conference came to a close.

While presenting the party’s resolutions at the conference delegates all reaffirmed the position to endorse President Mugabe as the party’s candidate and the sole centre of power.

The youth affairs thematic committee report which was presented by the party’s Secretary for Youth Affairs, Cde Kudzanai Chipanga resolved that President Mugabe be endorsed as the party’s sole candidate for the 2018 elections.

He said the President was a Life President and there was no need for the party to look for any other candidate as long as he was alive.

“We resolved to reaffirm our iconic leader, President Mugabe as the sole candidate for the party in the 2018 elections. We also endorse him as the sole centre of power within the ruling party.

“President Mugabe is our life President with unlimited terms of office. To further reaffirm this position we even call on the Registrar-General Mr Tobaiwa Mudede to actually change all of President Mugabe’s identity particulars and include the name President as part of his name as he will never lose that title as long as he is alive, his name on his identity particulars should now read President Robert Gabriel Mugabe,” said Cde Chipanga.

He further reported that as the youth affairs thematic committee they commended the First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe for her philanthropic contributions as a role model to the youth, physically challenged and children noting that this went a long way in uplifting the wellbeing of society.

Cde Chipanga further revealed that they had resolved that President Mugabe’s birthday, 21 February be declared a national public holiday, under the name Zimbabwe Youth Day.

“Focusing on the state of the party we resolved that we must dispose of the imposition of candidates, vote buying and everyone who seeks political office must be elected by the people. The party must punish and discipline those who engage in factionalism, tribalism, corruption and nepotism.

“The Government should prioritise the employment of youths in all strategic positions at State enterprises, local authorities and Government institutions. State enterprises should also ensure that a youth desk is established in all their companies,” he said.

Presenting on the state of the party resolutions, the party’s Secretary for the Commissariat, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere also reaffirmed President Mugabe as the sole centre of power and the party’s candidate for the 2018 elections.

“The party should promote unity and peace and condemn factionalism. Discipline is the backbone to this unity and peace. The party should further condemn any imposition of candidates during any elections.

“It has been noted that during primary elections, some people bus in supporters but when we get to the actual elections those people cannot vote,” said Cde Kasukuwere.

He said the party should now ensure that they are actively involved in supervising Government departments operating in their areas to ensure productivity.

“The committee further resolved to urge party leadership to stop interfering with other organs of the party. Youths should also be empowered through giving them strategic positions so that they are effectively trained to take up positions of responsibility,” said the party commissar.

“There should be 50 – 50 representation in decision-making and leadership positions as stated in the country’s constitution.

Women should be represented in all committees that deal with the allocation of land in urban and rural areas to address gender parity. Further women must be given a leading role in issues that directly affect them,” said Cde Moyo.

The leader of the food security cluster, Dr Joseph Made reported that they had resolved that the Government was now going to revive the Zunde raMambo/Isiphala seNkosi an initiative which he said went a long way in ensuring food security within communities.
