THE Zanu-PF fundraising committee on Friday raised the US$1 million required to hold the party’s National Congress in December.
At a fundraising dinner in Harare, Vice-President Joice Mujuru, who was the guest of honour, thanked companies for the pool of funds that will be used for the preparation of the quinquennial gathering.
“We will forever be grateful to the corporate world for its continued support to our party since the days of the liberation struggle and today you have come in your hundreds to support us. Because of your continued support, we have reached this far and we have already raised US$1 million which is going to be channelled towards our Congress,” she said.

“Today, we can stand tall and say we are Zimbabweans because of what we have achieved over the past years. Our maize production is on the rise; tobacco is booming; mining, which is our economic centrepiece, is also recording growth; the land is in our hands, although we still have challenges.

“This is not a Congress when you are going to an election (national general elections), but we will be discussing how to improve the economic situation in the country. We are aware of your suffering. We still have problems in manufacturing, but I can assure you that we are working hard to improve the situation.”

Zanu-PF national chair and Senior Minister of State Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo also expressed his gratitude.
“If it was not for you (corporate world), there would be no Zanu-PF. You have stood by us even during the difficult times and we are grateful for that,” he said.

Secretary for administration and Presidential Affairs Minister Cde Didymus Mutasa weighed in saying, “During the youth conference, makazviona takatukwa asi (you saw that we were reprimanded by the President, but), this time, we have said let’s prepare adequately to avoid those problems”.

Zanu-PF Politburo members, heads of parastatals and captains of industry were among those at the event.
