ZIMBABWE took third place at the just ended African Swimming Confederation (CANA) Zone 4 Championships in Mauritius after amassing a total of 38 medals. The competition, which began on Wednesday and ended yesterday, saw Zimbabwe take nine gold, 18 silver and 11 bronze to come third behind hosts Mauritius and northern neighbours, Zambia.

Zimbabwe Aquatic Union president, Mary Kloppers expressed delight at the result saying it was beyond expectation adding the team broke many records although individual results were not yet available at the time of going to press.

“I am extremely happy with the team’s performance and they exceeded our expectations. Another plus is that our swimmers broke many records showing we are improving. The individual medal allocation will show their exact time,” she said yesterday.
