A YOUNG Zimbabwean producer based in the United States of America, Brian Soko, who made waves in the music circles after producing the beat to Beyonce’s ‘‘Drunk In Love’’, has been honoured at the 2014 Broadcast Music Inc (BMI) awards in Hollywood held on 22 August clinching three awards.
The producer and his production partners, ‘‘The Order Product in Company’’ won under three categories which are the most performed RnB/Hip Hop song in 2014 for Lil Wayne’s ‘‘No Worries’’, Billboard number one’s RnB /Hip Hop song for Beyonce’s ‘‘Drunk in love’’ and Billboard number one’s RnB/Hip Hop airplay for Beyonce’s ‘‘Drunk in Love’’ again.

Brian said it was an honour for him to be one of the winners at the awards and felt this was the culmination of almost five years of hard work and sacrifice. He also dedicated his awards to his late friend and brother Kaelou.

“I dedicate this to everybody who has supported us over the years, my family, friends, business colleagues and my dear friend and brother Kaelou who passed away last month and wasn’t able to enjoy this moment with us,” he said.

“I am very thrilled to be representing Zimbabwe and Africa at this level. This is just the beginning of even more greater things to come for me, my country and Africa,” he said.

His brother and manager, Prince Soko, said he was very pleased and proud of him as he had been there with him from the beginning.

He said Brian’s achievement brought immeasurable joy to their family especially their parents.
“He has set a standard of excellence and proved it’s possible to compete and win at a global level as a Zimbabwean and African. What he has done is simply a great Zimbabwean and African story. We plan to build on this,” he said.

Brian recently launched an Africa focused management, marketing and production firm called Anashe Media Group whose goal is to link African media and corporations so as to create platforms for African brands and production talent.

“The main goal of Anashe is to establish a presence across Africa and steward investments into the content creation sector. It is more like an extended opportunity to other creative professionals,” said Prince.

In March this year Brian was in South Africa working with multiple artistes and he worked with Casper Nyovest to produce the record breaking single “Phumakim” which hit 15 000 downloads in the first minute of release and over 350 000 in a week.

He is working with producers from different countries which include Zimbabweans Simba Tagz of Show Time Records, Tatenda Kamera who is doing well in South Africa as well as Nigeria.

His manager said their future prospect was to win a Grammy, which would represent a pinnacle of his craft.
The BMI awards which are held annually were witnessed by music industry celebrities, influencers and power personalities at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles.

These awards celebrate songwriters, producers and publishers of the most performed RnB/Hip Hop songs of the previous years.
