DESPITE not being billed to perform at the 30th wedding anniversary of business couple Moses and Anna Mukoyi at Killarney low density suburb in Bulawayo on the first Saturday of 2016, Zimpraise songbird Lindani Masuku stole the show with a spontaneous performance that left guests asking for more.

While Lindani (41) allowed her voice to take centre stage, the UK based lovebirds were not outdone as they hosted a wedding anniversary that attracted Chief Makoni, who flew all the way from Rusape, former Zanu-PF Politburo member Cephas Msipa and a host of businesspeople from all over Zimbabwe.

Lindani, one of Zimpraise’s best musicians, did a medley of Rebecca Malope’s song Thandanani and her own song, Praise Him, which will be in her yet to be titled forthcoming debut solo album.

The married mother of two’s voice was so melodious even drunk guests stopped being a nuisance for a moment and listened to her bewitching tone.

In a short interview, Lindani revealed that she joined Zimpraise in February 2015 after she aced auditions that saw good musicians being overlooked because of her talent.

Lindani is working on her solo debut album that she hopes to release in April.

“I had heard about Zimpraise in 2014 and had a passion to join the choir and made an effort to join and someone gave me contacts which led me to go for auditions in February 2015 and I was successful.

“I started taking music seriously in 2012 when I did an album for the Midlands Province. I started singing when I was four in church, in the school choir and outside school I would sing with the family as a group at weddings and funerals,” she said.

“I stay in Kwekwe, but I will work on my album in Bulawayo in February and March. I have already written my songs, I am perfecting them now. In February and March I will be doing the recording. My album is a gospel album. I don’t do secular music. Worship music is about Jesus, it is not about enriching yourself.

The Bulawayo born singer, who was educated at Fairbridge Primary School and Eveline High School, hopes to become an internationally recognised and respected musician in five years time.

Lindani said: “I see myself going international because i don’t see myself as an entertainer, but a minister. I pray that I reach out to all nations as God gives me the grace to do so.”

Meanwhile, Moses said the secret to his long marriage at a time when divorce cases are on the rise is supporting each other, no matter what.

“We have ups and downs. Like all married couples we have challenges, we argue but we don’t forget that we love each other.

We forgive each other as well when one injures the other,” he said.

According to Anna what makes their marriage work is that it started with true love and as a result the affection they have for each other made sure that grew into a team.

She said: “We talk about anything and everything. In general, we respect each other. If that is the secret to a happy marriage then that is our secret.”
