A FORMER Bulawayo Polytechnic Fashion and Design student and upcoming gospel songstress, Prevalent Sithole, is fast following American pop star — Lady Gaga’s footsteps in her weird dressing on stage.

Sithole, warmly known as Princess Privy made a statement at her debut album launch in Harare in December and is proving to be a force to reckon with in the showbiz industry, judging from her sold debut album launch in Harare.

Not only is she making inroads into the music industry, with her album Ndivhumbamire Changamire but also the fashion industry, as she also unveiled a rather eccentric and innovative clothing line, which she makes out of newsprint and vegetables.

Princess Privy, said she wanted to create her own brand, which fans could identify with.

“I am moved by stubborn faith, launching an album at Kingston Hall, as an upcoming female artiste was just great, most seasoned musicians find it difficult to make it and this is a clear testimony that God is with me,” she said.

The gospel music newcomer mentioned that she derived her inspiration from seasoned but controversial gospel songstress Fungisai Zvakavapano Mashavave and Lady Gaga in fusing music with fashion.

Princess Privy said that she wanted to promote her own brand with her music and “crazy dressing”.

“As a designer our motto is originality and this I fuse it with my music. My dressing style is referred to as Avante Guarde, which is a French term, meaning something crazy and of course you cannot wear it while walking in the street.

“I am a fashion designer, to me fashion and music are the same because they are categorised as arts, whether you sing gospel or not,” she said.

Princess Privy, however, noted that she, like most musicians, faced a number of challenges in the industry.

“As an upcoming artiste, things are tough especially financially, for you to be popular you need to work hard, sometimes you need identity and this comes with costs, also as a female artiste other people’s comments are just bad they think if you are a female artiste one is of loose morals.

“I just want to be unique and not to identify with the usual long dresses, which are preferred by most female gospel artiste. After all it’s not the dressing which pushes people to God but the message in the songs,” said Princess Privy.
