THE Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has commended its members for upholding a high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties despite challenges to do with unavailability of resources.

Commander 1 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier-General Augustine Chiperwe said this during a Christmas party for Sergeants and Warrant Officers last week.

“I am pleased to note that during the year you demonstrated professionalism, dedication to duty, unquestionable loyalty and zeal to keep going despite numerous challenges which were imposed by the harsh economic climate,” he said.

Brig-Gen Chiperwe said the ZNA recognised the remarkable achievements in career development, promotions and upgrading of the formations standards in the form of discipline.

“Despite some isolated cases of indiscipline, I am pleased that members of the organisation have managed to maintain a high standard of discipline even higher during Operation Restore Legacy. I expect the same standards next year particularly during the 2018 harmonised elections, avoid corruption, substance abuse and respect the civilian population,” he said.

The reason behind the high level of discipline, he said, reflects the success of training courses at the army’s various training institutions. He said there was no way a soldier could be developed without periodic training in various areas.

Brig-Gen Chiperwe said career development was an important part of training and encouraged those that were currently going through courses locally and abroad to continue as they worked for the good of the organisation.

He added that despite the challenges being faced, the organisation would continue to improve the welfare and conditions of service for its members.

The main courses that they are undertaking are leadership and management, instructional ability and technical skills in the application of weapon systems.

“When we send our men and women for training we are preparing them for higher responsibility so that when elevated to a higher rank you are assured that one possesses the requisite skills for that higher rank,” he said.

With regards to training, he said they were trying to move in tandem with technological advancements as a lot of weapon systems required one to be conversant with science, technology and information technology systems.

Brig-Gen Chiperwe said while the festive season does come with the need to relax, he said the ZNA man and women would be on high alert and vigilant as there was a need to maintain peace in the country during the holidays.

“You must enjoy the holidays knowing that you may be called to work at any given time so you should be always prepared,” he said.
