ZIMBABWE Rugby Union (ZRU) president, Aaron Jani has challenged members of the Zimbabwe Academy South to embrace the opportunity that has been granted to them in order to become better rugby players.

Speaking at a training kit handover for the Brendan Dawson-coached Zimbabwe Academy South at Hartsfield Rugby Ground yesterday, Jani congratulated the youngsters for being the first to become part of the development programme.

He feels how the players move forward with their game is entirely up to them.

“What you’ve been given is an opportunity to build something for yourselves, how you progress depends on your attitude and how you accept this opportunity,’’ Jani said.

He put emphasis on the issue of fitness, which he said the players must strive to make it a part of the way they live their lives.

ZRU vice-president North Losson Mtongwiza, the man in charge of development at the union said what they were attempting to achieve is to produce the next generation of players, the same way the country churned out the likes of Tendai “Beast” Mtawarira, Brian Mujati and Kennedy Tsimba.

In Harare, a similar team is being put together which will be later combined with the one in Bulawayo.

According to Mtongwiza, matches are being organised for the academy, starting with locally before the team can go on tour outside the country.
