ACTION continues at Borrowdale Racecourse as Mashonaland Turf Club hosts horse racing competitions for the 2019/20 season.
The next race on the calendar is the AFZ Charity Handicap slated for 5 October, entries for this event are expected by be submitted before the end of the week to MTC. Once they are received MTC is expected to carry out the weights and draws stage which will be followed by the final acceptance stage next Monday.
It will be interesting to see what the three times in a row champion trainer Bridget Stidolph will bring to the party every fortnight in the domestic season. To prove her mantle in the last two years she is a winner of the Castle Tankard race as well as four times winner of the most prestigious race on the calendar the OK Grand Challenge (last two year) at the racecourse.
According to statistics pushed out by MTC, Stidolph has also trained three Tripple Taira race winners alongside a number of other notable races. The coming in of a new trainer Thomas Mason who signed off on a high note winning three races on the start on the season is likely to add more excitement to the game.
However, due to the size of his stables it will interest to see how Mason who prefers medium to long distances will deploy his lean squad.
Another trainer to keep an eye on is Gokhan Terzi once champion trainer some years back in the country.
Then there is the veteran Kirk Swanson, a trainer who has been around for sometimes due to his long dance with the games he deserves all the respect that is bestowed upon him especially when it comes to condition a horse for long distances.
Without taken anything away from other trainers, horse racing fans are definitely in for another mouth watering season.
