AN exciting cricket contest is lined up at Queens Sports Club today when Amakhosi clash with Midwest in a National Premier League fixture.

It certainly promises to be a closely fought contest between teams that are gunning for the big prize that comes with winning the NPL. Tarisai Musakanda, is leading run scorer in the NPL with 250 runs, 99 ahead of his second placed teammate Takudzwanashe Kaitano.

Musakanda is the only batsmen to score a century in the NPL so far after he made 142 against Gladiators and will look to lead Midwest to a third win in the NPL. Besides Musakanda and Kaitano, Nyasha Mayavo has also been in good form with the bat and the fourth leading run scorer.

Amakhosi are yet to taste defeat in the NPL but inactivity on Wednesday saw them fall from the top of the log to third. Takashinga, away to Great Zimbabwe Patriots at Masvingo Sports Club today are on top of the log, followed by Midwest.

While they boast of a strong bowling attack, Amakhosi’s batting is still to flourish in the NPL.

Allan Chigoma is their leading run scorer with 83 runs, with a best of 68 not out against Great Zimbabwe Patriots last Sunday. Chigoma, Thamsanqa Nunu, Cunningham Ncube and Nkosana Mpofu are key with the bat for Amakhosi. Thabo Mboyi, Ernest Masuku, Charlton Tshuma, skipper Ainsley Ndlovu, Steve Chimhamhiwa and John Nyumbu make up a strong bowling attack for Amakhosi.
