ARENEL Movers’ quest to move up the ladder and survive relegation was rewarded yesterday with a 2-1 win over visitors Greenfuel at Luveve Stadium and coach Philani “Beefy” Ncube was left deeply moved by the performance of his side.
The Bulawayo side now sit on 21 points, two points ahead of Chegutu Pirates who play Bulawayo Chiefs at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro today (Sunday).
It’s been a woeful campaign for Arenel Movers as they have recorded 13 defeats in their debut season in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League and could be destined for relegation if the team doesn’t work some magic in the final stretch of the 2024 season campaign.
At halftime, Arenel Movers were down one nil in front of a handful of supporters and coach Ncube revealed to Sunday News Sport how he motivated his boys to fight for three points.
“I would rather lose seven nil against any team as long as my team is playing good football and that’s what I told the boys at half time.
“We will fight to the end to avoid relegation and that will remain the goal until the end of the season.
“I’m happy with the performance of my players…they showed character today by coming from behind to win the match,” said Ncube.
Thirty six minutes into the match, Arenel looked like they were headed for another defeat when Donald Ngoma drew first blood for Greenfuel.
The magic that Arenel Movers coach, Ncube, asked for at halftime must have worked for the Bulawayo team, as in the 58th minute Toto Banda levelled matters for the hosts.
Njabulo Ngwenya made it sweet for Arenel Movers, known as the Sweet Boys in the 75th minute when he sealed the win for his team.
Greenfuel coach, Saul Chamunika remained holed up in the Luveve Stadium dressing rooms when it was time for the prescribed post-match interviews with the media.
