THE National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has urged artistes to be registered to make it easier for them to get recognition and to perform at State organised functions and galas.

Speaking at the recent launch of the Tsholotsho Arts Festival (TAF), NACZ Matabeleland North provincial arts manager Sindisiwe Eunice Ndlovu urged Tsholotsho artistes to get registered.

“Registering these artistes will make them get recognition from the Government and get notified when the Government is hosting events.

At the same time, it also changes the negative views the people have about the region.

“We want to promote arts in the region and assist the people of Tsholotsho to consider careers in music and arts so that they can make money using their talent not through mischievous ways,” said Ndlovu.

TAF received a certificate from NACZ and local artistes were registered so that they could get legal recognition and attend events organised by the council.

Tsholotsho Rural District Council chairperson Councillor Esau Siwela urged unity and cooperation among artistes of Tsholotsho.

“Working together to promote the arts and culture will help boost the sector in Tsholotsho at the same time promoting local artistes by showcasing them to the world,” said Clr Siwela.

TAF director Topaz Ndlovu said their aim was to promote arts and culture in the region.

“We want to showcase arts and culture from different parts of Tsholotsho and support local artistes by registering them with NACZ so that they can operate legally,” said Mr Ndlovu.

Representatives from the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation also attended the launch at Roma Hall.

Award winning actress Ellen “Magogo emkulwini” Mlangeni who is also the treasurer of TAF together with some artists from Tsholotsho showcased their talent with an amazing performance at the event.

Mlangeni featured prominently in local dramas that were broadcast by Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), such as “Thuba Lami”, “Isithembo,” “Isililo,” “Stitsha” and “Omunye Umngcwabo.”
