A 30-year-old man from Bulawayo allegedly killed his friend’s brother using an axe before gruesomely attacking his friend on the forehead over an undisclosed matter.

Obhani Magiya appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tinashe Tashaya last week facing charges of murder and attempted murder. Magiya was not asked to plead. He was remanded in custody to 8 May for continuation of trial.

The State’s case as presented by prosecutor, Ms Leane Nkomo was that on 18 April, Magiya had a misunderstanding over an undisclosed matter with Mr Priviledge Ndlovu (22) and his brother, Mr Admire Ndlovu and they ended up fighting.

The court heard that Magiya was defeated and he ran away. The following day at around 3am, Magiya armed himself with an axe and proceeded to the tent where Admire and his brother were sleeping.

The court heard that while they were sleeping, Magiya struck Admire three times with an axe on the head and attacked Priviledge two times on the forehead before escaping.

Admire died on his way to Mpilo Central Hospital, while Priviledge sustained a deep cut on the forehead. According to the prosecutor Magiya and the complainants were illegal miners.

Magiya was arrested on Saturday in Insiza.
